Fear is something we all feel, some people feel it in greater amount than others, but even the bravest persons are scared of something. It doesn’t have to be a big thing like dying. Augustus wasn´t scared of death, he knew it was coming and dealt with it. That was very brave of him. Hazel also knew that she might die, that the only way was to get a lung transplant which she wasn´t fitted for. She didn´t let that get to her either, she simply did the best of her situation. In the beginning of the book she said that “depression is not a side effect of cancer. Depression is a side effect of dying.” With that she probably meant that even though you have cancer it doesn´t mean that you have to be depressed, but you do get depressed if you are dying. …show more content…

My brother is like that, he is not afraid of anything or so he says. I fear to speak in front of people and I am also claustrophobic, my little sister on the other hand doesn´t like roller-coaster or darkness, those are all things that is me easy to name. but I believe that some people, like my brother, simply fear smaller things that they doesn´t really notice until they face it. If you wouldn´t be scared of anything the world would be chaotic, it is fear that controls us. We fear that if we do something bad we get in prison, we fear that if we do bad in school our parents will be disappointed, or that if you say something wrong people won´t like you. It is all minor things to be scared of, but all human beings feel it anyway. So even the bravest of persons are scared of something. Augustus biggest fear was oblivion, he didn’t want to be forgotten and felt like he had to do something memorable before he died. That might be one of the bigger fears, which is easier to name, but it still helps you through life. It is the fears that shows us who we are. If Augustus wouldn´t be scared of oblivion, he would probably have given up a long time ago when the cancer hit him.
