On September 27, 2015 the Kappa Lambda Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated., conducted Rush at 1:00 pm in the TCU Moudy South building. A total of eight ladies attended this event. Out of the eight, seven received favorable votes and applications where sent to Corporate. Corporate approved Ms. Briyet Sigala and Ms. Kayla Adams. Ms. Erynn Reed and Ms. Victoria Thompson met the requirements, but had flaws in their applications; however, we are waiting to hear back from Madame Regional Director regarding the corrections to their applications.
At Western Michigan University, there are many micro-cultures. One particular micro-culture I want to belong to is a sorority by the name of Delta Sigma Theta, incorporated. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913, 103 years ago, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need. My profile essay is going to be over Delta Sigma Theta Mu Sorority Inc. I will be talking about the history, benefits, and interesting facts. I will be interviewing a sister from the sorority to get personal facts and experiences they have encountered. I will be writing my essay in first person because this is a rather important essay to me.
I want to be a recipient of the Delta Sigma Theta Chapter of East Point/College Park because I believe i exhibit the values of what Delta Sigma Theta was founded on. I also have always considered being a Delta or get an opportunity to be in something as great as a Delta Sigma Theta program. Executive Summary The Salvation Army of the United States is one of the largest national providers of welfare services; operating in 128 countries worldwide, consisting of over 1.5 million members (i.e., officers, soldiers’ and adherents) (The Salvation Army USA, 2018). The organization prides itself for working with and advocating for the rights and needs of disadvantaged people. The promotion of values for human dignity, justice, hope, compassion and community makes the organization a leader in social justice and protection of the rights of disadvantaged and vulnerable people (The Salvation Army USA, 2018).
My increased desire to become an Alpha Man has been driven by my lifelong history and encounters with many of my past educators that are Alphas. I grew up in a typical underrepresented environment that had a big impact on my everyday life, from drugs, gangs, and a lack of ambition. Somehow that changed when I went to school, there where men in my schools that looked the same as the ones in my community, but the way they dressed and carried themselves was different. I later learned they were men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

While growing up at a young age my mom worked out of my sibling lives. I did not have many positive female role models I could look to for guidance in different situations.
The first notable member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated that really sticks out to me is Umzae George Washington Carver. He was initiated in the Gamma Chapter in the year of 1918. To begin I selected him, because he was a very familiar name. I remember learning about Umzae George Washington Carver in the elementary and middle school. With creating over 100 different uses for the peanut, soybean, and sweat potato he was a very prominent African American man in the 1920s.
In “Family Structure: The Growing Importance of Class” from the Washington Monthly, Senior Fellow in Economic studies Isabel V. Sawhill makes a comparison and contrast between blacks and whites from the 1960s to today, describing how both white and black families have changed over time through the factors such as gender roles, single-parent families, race, and class. In the beginning of Sawhill’s essay, she shows the similarities between what happened to black Americans in the early 1960s and what is happening now to the white Americans and how it is not just race that affects family structure, but class as well. My interest in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. sparked when I met Sheila Hudson. At the time I had no idea that she was an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. What I saw in Shelia Hudson was a smart, accomplished, proficient women who completely shattered all of my preconceived expectations of what I thought a sorority girl was supposed to be like.
