In the article, Silence that Idiot Box, Jeff Jacoby says that if a person was a parent they would not let his child do anything dangerous or do anything against the law. He states that TV turns brains into mush. Saying that television is not healthy for the average person to watch every single day. He further calls the TV an idiot box, in saying it destroys children 's innocence, leading them to do violent things, mockery, and crude humor and sexualization. The definition of television is a visual medium, which means it appeals to the eye not the brain. Jeff points out that the eye can be manipulated, even saying an amatuer hypnotist could manipulate someones eyes with ease. Jacoby says that TV leaves people in a zoned at state, which means ignoring everything but drawn toward a the object that cause he or she to zone out from. Jeff said if a person was a parent they would not let their own child drink or do something to cause their child to become in this state of mind. Watching TV leads to drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes, but it is not entirely a bad thing to smoke or drink. It may be unhealthy, but if that is what someone loves to do then why would somebody else take it away from them. Jeff puts an emphasis on opinion in this article. Jeff states that even at its best it replaces engaged and active thought with passive and sedentary spectating, while at its worst it destroys children’s innocence, inuring them to violence, mockery, and crude sexualization. That right there was all opinion on what can be seen on television, not what is always shown. If TV was as unhealthy as Jeff says it is then nobody would own a television
