Introduction
The Silver Linings Playbook is a film about a 34-year-old man named Pat Solitano, who has just been released from eight months in a psychiatric institution because he found his wife, Nikki, and her lover together which caused him to have a violent outburst and physically assault his wife's lover. Pat lives at home with his parents, Dolores Solitano and Patrick Solitano Sr., he also has a brother named Jake Solitano who is six years older than him. The main character Pat Solitano suffers from Bipolar I Disorder. Another main character that is Pat Solitano's love interest Tiffany Maxwell suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder. Tiffany and Pat have a complicated relationship where they are insensitive and brutally honest with one another. Pat and Tiffany both acknowledge that they have issues Pat says Tiffany has poor social skills while Tiffany states that he says inappropriate things frequently. Tiffany suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder. Quickly after meeting Pat, Tiffany makes advances toward him in a way to form a connection, Pat rejects her advances and Tiffany then goes through the process of learning to form meaningful connections throughout the film. Tiffany ended up losing her job after her husband died because she had a sexual relationship with eleven co-workers and stated she was depressed during this time. It is quite common for people with Borderline Personality Disorder to offer up any means to form an attachment whether that be sexual, emotional, materialistic, or physical. Tiffany seems to need support or a friend as she will offer any means to gain attachment. Tiffany bonds with Pat over her being able to send a letter to Nikki if he needed, Tiffany is disregarding if this is a good idea or not for Pat and even acknowledges it is breaking the law and his situation, she does this to form a connection and attachment with Pat. Tiffany tends to have unstable relationships, engages in impulsive behavior frequently seen in the movie through sex, fell empty, and experiences intense anger. Tiffany and Pat make a deal that if he dances with her in a competition she will help him and send the letter to Nikki. Tiffany tells Pat that Nikki replied to his letter, Nikki states that she's happy he is becoming more positive and says that she needs to see something to prove Pat is ready to renew his marriage and suggests that they would both be better off if they lived their life separately. Pat soon realizes that Tiffany lied to him to protect his feelings
