In cambodia, the uprising was much different from Stalin to Khmer Rouge. Khmer Rouge was lead by Pol Pot, a man originally from Vietnam but moved to france becoming a powerful leader as a communist. Pol Pot eventually became one of the most powerful communist leaders of all time. He then starts the group Khmer Rouge and takes over Cambodia. Another very important detail creating difference between the two hardships in two different countries would be the amount of time the country was under distress because of their cruel leaders.
Zedong and Stalin have obvious differences, but those differences lead to more similarities because of the parallel origin of these
This shows how the content of the act is that the U.S. is the last hope for democracy and a successful Western nation, and ultimately, having immigrants come from communist countries would put this status at risk. Therefore, the McCarran-Walter Act underscores America’s response to the Cold War threat of communism, showing that immigration policy was essential in defending America’s ideological beliefs. The Refugee Relief Act of 1953 was significantly influenced by the social and political events of the Cold War era because it shifted the strategic approach of American immigration policy to offer asylum for refugees escaping Communism. Immigration policy became an integral part of the Cold War effort because as the Cold War continued and immigrants were seeking refuge from communism, “dissatisfaction with the 1952 McCarran-Walter Act inspired support for the allocation of 214,000 visas” to refugees escaping communism. This signifies the U.S. strategic shift towards providing asylum to those persecuted by communist regimes because it was beneficial to the Cold War
When it comes to Cuban and Haitian refugees in the late 1970s and early 1980s although they were coming to the United States for different reasons, they were both trying to find freedom from dictatorship in their own countries. Though both Cubans and Haitian arrived around the same time in Florida, in Detention by Design, Episode 5: "The New Immigration Detention System Is Born”, Wenski stated, “Because African American communities saw that the Cubans were getting kind of a favored migration status and the Haitians were not” (55). This is important since episode 4: "Mariel Boatlift: The Tide Turns” also states something similar about how Cubans were released quickly while Haitians still had to serve a longer period of time. This shows how differently
This modern genocidal conflict in North Korea is similar to the Holocaust because it employs symbolization, extermination, and denial. Symbolization is stage two of genocide, and is the stage where names were given to separate
Refugees are treated like two different people when it comes to living at home and school. “They both have to endure the “push-and-pull” forces of home and school, which often work in opposite directions,” (Fantino and Colak, 9). This shows that refugees lives turn “inside out” as they become greatly depended on at home and then thrown like a piece of trash at school. In the book Inside Out and Back Again, Lai writes “Brother Quang, who becomes translator for all,” (Lai, 97). This shows one of the things that refugees like Brother Quang are expected
Both leaders also use propaganda as a method of control. Mao and Kim Jong Un both used paintings, advertisements, and posters to show that they were the best and people need to show love to them. One Example is Mao would have pictures of people holding red books to show that if you did not have one you were not part of the revolution and you would be punished if not. Also, Kim jong Un had pictures of him as the sun to symbolize that he is like the “god” but if you get to close to the sun there would be serious consequences. Kim Jong Un uses censorship but mao did not really use it.
(U) North Korea (NK), although isolated, have developed their own cultural aspects over the decades. The civilian considerations, such as PMESII/ASCOPE, in NK comes in many shapes and forms. The cultural aspects of NK are dependent on and significantly affected by these considerations. The culture of NK varies from the political to the information considerations in PMESII/ASCOPE. The government control these aspects in NK giving little to no civilian involvement.
According to the National Association of Korean Americans (2003) said that in 2003 Korean Americans celebrated the 100th anniversary of Korean Immigration to the United States. They go on to say that this however is not the actual beginning for Korean immigration. There was a man named Philip Jaisohn that arrived in 1885 as a political exile and became the first Korean to become a U.S. citizen. In December 1902, 56 men, 21 women, and 25 children traveled to Hawaii. They landed on January 13, 1903.
The feel of sand reminds me of ludington michigan. Although it might rained every time I went there it was one of my favorite camping trips ever. ludington was a beautiful place to camp, r.v., and visit. It was one of those places where you wish you could stay longer after every day. One day my family decided to camping for a couple of days, because we had nothing to do for that week.
As possible as it was for them to have different experiences it was also possible for them to somewhat have similar experiences. Due to them both being in China, although in slightly different times, it is easy to compare their travel accounts. A similarity that occurred in both of their travel accounts is that they both wrote from what they knew. All that they had observed was mainly because of the way and where they had been raised and how that triggered their train of thought. Another similarity is that in both travel accounts religion was discussed.
Ha is an example of the universal refugee experience because she goes through things that many other refugees go through, such as the feeling of being “inside out” and not belonging anywhere. Ha has to learn a new language and a whole new way of life, she has to give up many of her old traditions and ways of life like many refugees do. A universal refugee experience is something that is experienced by not all, but most refugees. Ha started out stubborn and forceful before they fled their home, "I decided to wake before dawn and tap my big toe on the tile floor first," (Lai 2). Ha is angry that only men 's feet bring good luck and she will not let that be the case for she wants to bring luck to her family.
The education is the first example. Mao had graduated from the college unlike Hannibul was only knew about the ways to fight in the war. Another difference is about their married life. Mao had mated with his bride on the other hand Hannibul hadn’t married. The two leader are also differ in their dead.
The Refugee Experience The universal refugee experience is related to Ha’s refugee experience in the book Inside Out and Back Again, because they both have to find transportation, learn a new culture, and find a new home. In the Desperation at Sea article in the Junior Scholastic Magazine Ali fled his home in Somalia. He had to travel across the Sahara Desert in the back of a pickup truck to get to Tripoli, Libya in order to get on a boat to Italy.
The “Refugee Children's Movement” saved lots of lives and some of the kids even moved to bigger and better places and were doing great in life. Thanks to the "Refugee Children's Movement” it did save more than six hundred and fifty children, even though they had to adapt to the new way of life they were still saved from the bad parts of life (Berne 15-23). In fact most of the children were assigned sponsors or aid organizations to keep them safe and show them how to live the right life so that they would have a good, long, and healthy life while the other kinders lived with their relatives
