Dystopia is an unperfect place that seems perfect because people are being ruled and controlled. Winston Smith is a member of the Outer party and he works in the Ministry of Truth. Winston is trying to escape Big Brother, at least in his own world but he got caught and eventually became what Big Brother wants in the novel “1984”.. In the short story “Harrison Bergeron” where every person is somehow forced to be equal and the government is absolute right and no one dare question it. Absolute and declarative control is what the government has over its own people that seem to be the same as their selves. In the novel “1984” the parties have the control or you can say Big Brother does. “The upper class oppress the middle class”(Orwell) they made sure it wasn't possible to revolt against the government which is Big Brother in this case. In the short story “Harrison Bergeron” the handicaps had the control, “the handicaps tuned to a government transmitter” (Vonnegut 1) The handicaps controlled how life was and the information the society was going to receive. In “the Matrix” the machines and computers control everything basically, “the machines held the humans under power”, the government brought the machines to Zion to have total control over the world. However the government has absolute control it is not all controlled in the same way for these three pieces. The government has control of the society in various ways for these three pieces of work. In the novel “1984” it’s corporate control which used propaganda, advertising, and/or the media to undertake the society. The main advertising slogan they use is “Big Brother is watching you.” (Orwell 5) Corporate control in “1984” is using different aspects to corrupt and take down society. In the short story “Harrison Bergeron” the control use is bureaucratic which uses relentless regulations and incompetent government. The government now has “211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the constitution.” (Vonnegut 1) This is was keeping all the equality along with the Handicap General, this bureaucratic control was outrageously out of hand due to all the regulations the society had to go through.
