So often readers don't know what they will expect from a book. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 many things seemed to happened that were unexpected. It’s very relevant to readers in the modern world to read this book. Fahrenheit 451 has a powerful message to modern readers because of the similarities and differences between the novel and our world.

Fahrenheit 451 had a few types of technology. The 1950’s was the birth of many new types of technology. From the credit card in 1950, to the first machine in 1959, they were all new to the public. In today’s society there are so many types of technology, from smartphones to paying with just the face. Fahrenheit had the mechanical hound, TV’s.
Fahrenheit 451 and 1984. Both are dystopian books. Even though they are in the same genre, they have their thematic, societal and symbolic differences. One major difference is their form of censorship. In 1984, they censor thoughts against the government.
In our society today, it is very common to see someone walking around on their cell phone or an electronic device. Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 predicted many enhancements in our society while the book was only written in 1950. Many of these enhancements are being used today. The earpieces Mildred uses represent headphones and Bluetooth earpieces we use today. Many individuals are ‘obsessed’ with the amount of screens they have in front of them.
In the world of Fahrenheit 451 they don't give you enough time to think but in the world of 1984 it is illegal. Fahrenheit 451 by ray bradbury and 1984 by george orwell both are dictatorships that censor the media. 1984 is a harder to overthrow dictatorship in 1984: the government gives no power to people, has more severe punishment and does not give anybody time to think.

When the U.S first formed its government away from Britain, they tried to make their society as perfect as possible. As the years go on many changes occur in societies all around the world. There are many differences and similarities between Modern American Society and dystopian societies, such as fire departments in Fahrenheit 451, in the film 2081 government is extremely different than todays, and in the novel, Fever Code by James Dashner the freedoms of citizens have changed a lot. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 and Modern American society, Fire departments are both similar and different.
The author chose to open the novel with a tone of menace about the streets after midnight. This helps the reader know that the society present in the story has significantly changed compared to “modern day” (The modern day I am referring to is when Bradbury wrote this book). Due to this, Montag’s thoughts consists of the uncertainty of the society, whether life is as he knows it as, or in simpler words, normal or weird. For example, page two of the novel states that “The last few nights he had had the most uncertain feelings about the sidewalk just around the corner here, moving in the starlight toward his house”

In the modern society the people in this world seem awfully spoiled compared to the several dystopian societies from Fahrenheit 451, 2081, and Uglies. The schools in Fahrenheit 451 have a different feel than the modern schools where they wear students out so much you have to go straight to sleep when you get home. 2081 shows that we do want equality, but not too the point were people are restrained. Lastly, Uglies shows how technology in the modern society could lead to greater cities in the future, that come with a cost of heavily judging the “non perfect”. Schools in the modern society are different from schools in the dystopian society of Fahrenheit 451.

And instead of having firemen that put out fire, the firemen start the fire to burn down books and houses. On the other hand, present day America is much more relaxed on the idea of individuality. While Mildred’s characterization is an exaggeration, with today’s technologies she has become more relevant, relatable, and tragic. It is remarkable how much prescience Bradbury demonstrated in writing Fahrenheit 451. The Seashells Mildred uses resemble modern day earphones, and how she tunes out the world in favour of “an electronic ocean of sound” (19) predicted how people today would do the same while listening to music or podcasts on their mobile devices. Her TV walls are much like the numerous digital screens that permeate all parts of our lives and hold our attention. Or, the TV parlour and the scripted parts Mildred plays in the shows can be seen as an early concept for virtual reality video games.
