Similarities Between Alaska And National Parks

708 Words3 Pages

Nature. The. Adventure. Vacation. These are thoughts that go with the outdoors and places you go to visit. Many topics may come to mind from Gary Paulsen’s Woodsong that readers may want to know more about and explore more about. Furthermore, Alaska and national parks similarities are definitely something worth researching. My first reason Alaska is a lot like a national park is because of the landscape. The first of two landscapes that Alaska and national parks have in common are mountains. One article from Galileo said, “The iconic mountains are easy to spot” (Andrew Weeks, a drive through the Tetons). Alaska and the Grand Tetons (which is a national park) both have gorgeous mountains across their horizons. This is one way these places are …show more content…

The article continues to list places such as California and more. Many national parks along with mountains have woods. After going to national parks such as the Grand Tetons, I have seen the woods that national parks have. The woods stretch on for miles! This is a major thing they have in common because all the non-desert national parks have forests pretty much everywhere. Also, I am aware Alaska has woods because after reading and researching I know Alaska is known for their forests. Next, my second reason why Alaska and national parks are similar is the way they both have similar animals. The first animal that came to mind before I started researching was wolves, One article states that “The dog is the oldest known native Alaskan breed.”(Funk and Wagnalls, Alaskan Malamute). The reason I thought of wolves is because when I went to Yellowstone with my family my grandpa saw a bunch of people gathering by a cliff/mountain area so we walked closer. This is a major reason that Alaska and national parks are similar because most of the national parks that have forests have …show more content…

An encyclopedia from Galileo says: “Animal life includes about 60 species of mammals, of which bear and deer are most common.”(Funk and Wagnalls, Yosemite National Park). This piece of text is saying that this specific national park has many deer and if one national park has one I know more do, (I also saw many deer on my trip to national parks). I have read and I feel it is common knowledge that Alaska has deer as well. I know that both these places you see deer pretty commonly, deer are sort of an invasive species they take over. If you have one you will have many more in years to come so it makes sense that both national parks and Alaska have deer and they do When people think of national parks they think of history and heat and sweat but there is more to it than that. Alaska is a unique place in the US and it has a lot in common with national parks and not because of the history or weather. I think of the scenery and the wildlife that is in the area. At the end of the day, Alaska and national parks are very important to our ecosystem and have way more in common than meets the eye. How many towns and places have such a great environment as Alaska and national parks
