Through all of mand kinds inventions, technology has made the biggest impact on soceity. Technology has made human lives easier, by helping access things faster and to communicate with one another, as well it has lead to even more inventions. Technology keeps becoming more advanced as time goes on, technology is now apart of everything a person does in their day to day life. People are becoming to attached to the idea of technology or robots taking control of everythings sociey does. The reason no one really realizes that they live in a virtual world is because people have become too busy to realize that. Gopnik discuss how people live in a two grid system of busyness. He says, “We exit the apartment into a still dense nineteenth-century grid of street corners and restaurants full of people, and come home to the late-twentieth-century grid of faxes and e-mails and overwhelming incompleteness” (158). People are constantly busy because they go out and do responsibilities for work or other priorities and they come home and have emails to write back to or people that need to be called back because they left a message. Society remains busy because technology is making us create double lives to survive in the 21st century. With the advancement made to technology in the 21st century, are literally creating a new life within their computers and smart phones. People are reinventing themselves to who they want people to see them as when they go online. In Turkle’s essay it talks about how people create new world on their computer because people feel lonely and vulnerable. She says, “Online, you’re rich, and buffed up, and you feel you have more opportunities than in the real world” (273). As technology has become more popular people are avoiding face to face interactions with one another, because they are scared of talking to other people or they are nervous to say the wrong thing. The New York lifestyle that Gopnik talks about, which is being too busy to talk to their friends. He says, “We hop into taxis and leave messages on answering machines to avoid our acquaintances” (158). People would rather leave a voice mail on someone else’s phone rather than going to lunch or an event to catch up with a friend because they are too busy. Technology has allowed us to hide behind and avoid those altercations with talking to others. Technology helps people feel confident about talking to others because that person can say whatever they want without the awkward pauses of talking in person. In addition people are able to make to perfect sentence or have a brilliant biography because they have all the time to create one with technology. Turkle says, “We can write the Faceook profile that pleases us. We can edit our messages until they project the self we want to be” (274). Technology allows us to fix our mistakes and make things as perfect as they can to please the people that surround us.
