In today’s society, people are relying on the Internet for convenience and quick social interactions. Authors Clifford Stoll, Gary Small and Gigi Vorgan give their opinions on how unfavorable the Internet really is. The decline in real world interaction forces people to become isolated and form social weak ties. This then leads to addiction and giving a false sense of control to the people. I do agree with Stoll, Small and Vorgan’s opinion on the negative effects on the internet. Our society is constantly revolving around the Internet and it is hard for people to become less attached to their screen.
Real interactions have been declining after the Internet became a boom in our society while weak ties made through the Internet have grown. Once I got home from class, the first thing I did was turn on my laptop and watch useless videos on YouTube, or going on other social media platforms. I was extremely addicted and loss countless of sleep due to my addiction. I stayed up till 3AM on the weekends just to watch my favorite variety shows which resulted in me staying up late on Sunday to finish my homework. I refused to spend time with my family or friends because I wanted to stay locked to my screen. I became extremely antisocial and extremely lazy. My Internet addiction had a very negative impact on me and I realized I had to do something about it. After starting college, I have been cutting down the use of the Internet. The majority of the time I use the Internet is to conduct research for my school papers or to check my grades.
