President Roosevelt approved several orders and committees that specifically targeted Japanese Americans on the West Coast, while war propaganda was created to instill fear and hatred of the Japanese in the American people. In order for them to support the war, the government used propaganda to evoke feelings of nationalism. While the United States joined the war as an opportunity to get revenge on Japan, propaganda was often censored to guarantee that Americans only saw the damage Japanese soldiers had done to Americans. To insure that Americans would not be put off and maintain the desire for war, images of dead Americans were prevented from being published to the public. (“Supporting Evidence”). Government officials knew that citizens were unable to withstand the gruesome photos taken of the realities of the war.
Whilst the Japanese were being sent to the camps, many people on the west coast were hanging racist signs in storefronts and neighborhoods giving the obvious notice that Japs were not welcome. This attitude of hatred is what caused the poor conditions of the internment camps on the west coast, carried out and justified by the idea that the white Americans were better than the Japanese Americans due to the suspicion of espionage. The Japanese Americans were thought of as spies therefor they were thrown into internment camps where the discriminatory attitude of western Americans brought upon their unjust treatment. The pressure of WWII caused the American government to make unecessary precautions in hopes of protecting a nation when they in fact they divided it.

Hitler was the chancellor of Germany with death camps and concentration camps, and America had Internment camps. Innocent people were put in these camps. Nazi camps and Japanese Internment camps are different because of the purposes behind the camps, reasons the people were sent to the camps, and what they did at the camps.
One of our human rights protects us against discrimination. In both cases, the Japanese and Jewish were discriminated against based on their nationality or religion. Hitler put people in camps because they were Jewish, America did the same to people who were of Japanese descent. Another right protects us from torture. There was a lot of torturing in both types of camps.
Americans started thinking the Japanese knew about the attack before it happened (Sandler 24). Everyone blew everything out of proportion. “During the early 1920’s the anti-Japanese crusade grew nastier” (Marrin 63). Americans started saying “Once a Jap, Always a Jap” (Martin 23). The people became prejudice.
Thesis statement: Though many speculate that the act of dropping the atomic bomb on Japan (Hiroshima and Nagasaki) while not doing so on Europe (Germany and Italy) was racially motivated, racism played little to no role in these bombings. The United States of America and her allies were willing to end World War II at any cost, had the atomic bombs been available they would have been deployed in Europe. In the 1940’s there is no doubt that the United States of America was engulfed by mass anti-Japanese hysteria which inevitably bled over into America’s foreign policy. During this period Japanese people living in both Japan and the United States of America were seen as less that human.
All Asians are good at math, all blondes are dumb, all Muslims are terrorists - these are all common stereotypes. Without even realizing it, stereotypes have undeniably played an enormous role in individual lives. Minds seem to already set a certain image in them based on the people they encounter. People judge others by their skin tone, ethnicity, and physical appearance unconsciously, and this have been proven by many social experiments. Of course, though these stereotypes might be accurate at times, there are situations where they are completely defied.
In the years, just before World War II, discrimination against Japanese-Americans was part of everyday life. Japanese were racially discriminated against and violated lifestyle and citizenship. Japanese-Americans were racially discriminated every aspect of housing, employment, education and so on. Furthermore, they were imprisoned on innocence. Consequently, U.S. relations with Japan had steadily worsened.
