Who would want to live in a world where there is no freedom? A world where people cannot learn on their own, or even use the pronoun “I” all in an effort for world peace and equality. No one would, except for those who do not know anything other than that lifestyle. Even then though, there is always a few outliers that strive to learn, feel, and stand out in society where people frown upon being different. In the stories Anthem and Fahrenheit 451, the authors Ayn Rand and Ray Bradbury, focus on explaining the future in a dystopian world to reveal that true world peace is miserable and not always what is best.

Far into the future, the society in the book Anthem forms a dystopian civilization where individuality is nonexistent. The civilization frowns upon anything individual, as it is against the laws set by the “Brotherhood” which consists of every man on Earth. They allow no one to be alone even in words such as the singular pronoun “I”, people cannot even have ideas of their own. They sleep in groups where nights are horrible, and people wake up screaming and sobbing. People assign other’s jobs because it is illegal to have choice, or show preference. But in reality this only causes internal conflict. People are different, and that is just how it is. They cannot help but be this way, and the leaders of this society are literally breaking human nature by creating these laws. Equality 7-2521 thinks he is different, and he cannot help but commit the crime of choice. He tries to be like the other men, but he never will be. Equality 7-2521 is not very different from any other man, because every other man is struggling with the exact same thing as him. They all think they are different, and that they will be caught for this. Equality 7-2521 just cannot hide it like how these other men can. These men ache inside just like him, they scream and sob at night from the pain they feel. One example of Equality 7-2521’s internal conflict is on the day they give the young men their jobs. They keep these jobs until they no longer can do them. Equality 7-2521 laid awake thinking of what the council would elect to for him to do for his short eternity of his life, ¨So we wished to be sent to the Home of Scholars. We wished it so much that our hands trembled under the blankets in the night, and we bit our arm to stop that other pain which
