Armenian and Cambodian Genocide Thousands of people have heard about the Cambodian and Armenian Genocide, but have not known about the harsh methods that Pol Pot and his communist, Khmer Rouge have done to the Cambodian people. People around the world are also ignorant to how the Turks had their way in murdering 1.5 million Armenians. People are sometimes confused by why the Turks and Pol Pot wanted to harm these innocent families. But, many survivors lived to tell their stories about how awful they have been treated and tortured. They all had the courage to explain to these people of the horrible deaths they have lived to witness. The leader during Cambodian Genocide was Pol Pot and his communists, the Khmer Rouge. The Khmer Rouge intended on revolutionizing the Cambodian society. Pol Pot vision to create a new and better Cambodia and wanted to restore the country as an “agrarian society”. Immediately after Pol Pot took over Cambodia, the Khmer Rouge evacuated Phnom Penh’s residents. The people were stripped of all their stuff and were forced to work in fields. Khmer Rouge didn’t only target journalists, doctors, or teachers, they also targeted religious groups. “Religious enthusiasts, Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, ethnic Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Cambodians with Chinese, Vietnamese or Thai ancestry, were all persecuted” (Cambodian Genocide). The Holocaust’s killing method was to tell the children and elderly men and women they were going to take a shower. Instead, the “shower” was a gas chamber that the Jews had been tricked to go into. This relates to all killing methods in every genocide. The Turks, leading the Armenian Genocide, had their own killing methods. One of their killing methods they did to exterminate Armenian people were death marches. They used death marches in the beginning of the Genocide around April 24, 1915. The Armenian people were shot if they were to stop while walking under the hot sun, without any food or water. The Young Turks would go around robbing the houses of Armenian families. The men would be shot if seen and the women would be raped, then starved. The children would only be starved. Eventually, the women and children would be sent on death marches and would die walking.
