Jay Gatsby – He is the protagonist in the story. He is a wealthy young man who lives in a huge mansion in West Egg. He throws wild extravagant parties every weekend. It is a mystery to everyone who he is, and how he made his money. He met Daisy and fell in love with her 5 years before the main action of the novel, before he went to fight in Germany in WW1. While he was in the war, Daisy married Tom Buchanan who came from an old money family. Later in the story, we find out that Gatsby is from a very poor farmer’s family in North Dakota. He left his family and got a chance to reinvent himself. His will to accomplish his success in money and social status was so strong, because he wanted to win back Daisy. He made his fortune through illegal activities. Everything he does, and everything he thinks about, is about bringing Daisy back into his life forever. …show more content…

The story is told through his eyes. He is from Minnesota, and got his education from Yale. After he fought in WWI, he came to New York to become a bond salesman for hoping to be successful. He lives right next to Gatsby’s mansion. His cousin is Daisy Buchanan. He helps Gatsby to reconnect with Daisy, and becomes close to Gatsby. Daisy Buchanan – She is the cousin of Nick Carraway. She is from a wealthy family in Louisville, Kentucky. She met Gatsby five years ago in Louisville and fell in love with him, but Gatsby had to leave for the war. While he was in the war, and not knowing he was alive, Daisy met Tom Buchanan and married him. Five years later, through her cousin, Nick, she re-connects with Gatsby, and has an affair with him. Tom Buchanan – He is Daisy’s husband who is extremely wealthy man from old money. He was Yale football star, and knows Nick Carraway from Yale. He is arrogant, and aggressive to everyone.He is also unfaithful to Daisy from the beginning of their marriage. He is the antagonist in the story, because he took away Daisy from
