Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde or The Time Machine When a person is asked to choose between two great works of literacy, the question is pondered over, mulled through the processing functions of the brain when ,finally, and answer is given. In this case the answer to whether The Time Machine or The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is better is obviously The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is more captivating in plot progression, characters, and in how a reader feels toward the demise of beloved characters. Although The Time Machine is a very whimsical and agreeable, it is a very slow book without much action. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde however, is a very exciting book compared to the latter, with some type of new revelation in every chapter. In The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde there are a variety of characters with differing qualities. You have Mr. Utterson who is, “a man of a rugged countenance, that was never lighted by a smile; cold, scanty and embarrassed in discourse; backward in sentiment; lean, long, dusty, dreary, and yet somehow lovable”( Stevenson, 3). Mr. Utterson is a very dry fellow but is always easy to be friendly with. You also have the villain Mr. Hyde who is, “...pale and dwarfish, he gave an impression of deformity without any nameable malformation, he had a displeasing smile, he had borne himself to the lawyer with a sort of murderous mixture of timidity and boldness, and he spoke with a husky, whispering and somewhat broken voice;...”(Stevenson, 19). Both of these characters have many distinguishing traits that make them seem like real people. The Time Machine, on the other hand, has characters that seem far off and unimaginable, with nothing to compare
