Many literary works from all different time periods can have very similar characteristics. Edgar Allan Poe wrote The Fall of the House of Usher at the height of the Romantic Movement in Europe during the 19th century. The Fall of the House of Usher was written in Edgar Allan Poe’s famous gothic literature style. Gothic literature is the style of writing characterized by fear, gloom, death, and horror with attributes of nature, uniqueness, individualism, and extreme emotion. Poe believed that humanity was exposed through the darkest facets of the heart and mind. Edgar Allan Poe was a master of Gothic Literature and an American scholarly critic. After the demise of his mother and the vacancy of his father, Poe was raised by an affluent merchant.
