Ancient China and Egypt had many similarities in how their houses were made. But being in different areas and climates of the world, they had to make their houses differently. Homes had to be built based on their need for shelter, family size, and the defense of big animals or war and tribes. The following paragraphs will show the similarities and differences between the two cultures.
The Egyptians and Chinese had a lot of similarities of how they made their homes. In Egypt some houses were made of brick. They constructed bricks out of the materials that they had. Most Chinese houses had very little furniture. For the Chinese the one thing they almost all had in common was the Kang bed. The Kang bed was a raised platform with a space underneath to build a fire, or run pipes filled with hot air or water. This was also the sitting and eating space. The Egyptians did not have this piece of furniture. The rich people had much better furniture, with beautiful designs and decorations. The decorations and furniture were in the bedrooms the hall and the study. The hall was the living room. The most expensive furniture was found in the hall. The study is the library. The Egyptians did not have these things. Paintings and carvings were added to the architectural work to make it more beautiful and attractive. In Egypt they had a farmhouse. Some people lived in a farmhouse. The farmhouse had two stories. The upper half was for living space and the lower half was to store crops. The Chinese did not have this.
