Policies are created by governments to ensure a safe and orderly community for the people in it. Gun policy and Covid-19 policies have been two of the most prevalent policies in the United States and especially in comparison between the county and special district governments. This paper will discuss the relevance of gun policy and Covid-19 policy among the different local government structures and how those differences can change the implication of that policy. When it comes to gun policies and Covid-19 policies, it is unique to explore the differences and similarities between how the policies are administered by the county local government and the special district local governments. Before exploring the details of gun policy between county and school district governments, it is important to understand the differences between the structures of the local governments. This policy change was a direct result of Governor Ron DeSantis publicly stating that “masks are no longer needed” in the state of Florida. The governor’s administration banned mask mandates in public schools in the state of Florida, which begins to encroach on the Alachua County School Board’s authority. According to the definition of county local governments, Alachua County must enforce and administer the same regulations and policies as the state does. Therefore, the Alachua County government must adhere to this new policy. The removal of mandatory masks in Gainesville raises an interesting controversy because it challenges the authority of the special districts, specifically the School Board in Alachua County, and what that means for students in the school
