This is my final exam report, and its purpose is to explain the similarities of Haiti and Kosovo which despite the fact that are far from each other and don’t have any relation, face some common issues; I’m going to direct those issues and their effect on the future of these countries. Our task was to relate Haiti or Dominican Republic with Kosovo. If we were to compare one of them with our place, obviously Haiti would appear first in our minds. The reason is that political issues such as justice, corruption and crimes together with economical problems such as poverty, illegal drugs trade, and society classes of Haiti have a lot of similarities with those of Kosovo, and the impact of those issues predicts a gray future of these two countries …show more content…

One of the main reasons for this stagnation in development is the suffering it had experienced while it was under European colonies (Diamond, 2005 p.330). The majority of population represents farmers; they produce coffee, sugar and export it. Also, most of the population have a land and take care of themselves, without waiting for the state to support them (Diamond,2005, p.340) As Diamond stated: “Haitians used land to feed themselves, and received no help from their government in developing cash crops for trade with overseas European countries”(p.340). They live in the capital city of Haiti, and as a continuity of French elite class during colonization, are said to “enjoy French restaurants with fine wines” (Diamond, 2005 p.330). In Kosovo, the elite group represents businessmen and politicians mostly, not leaving out of the box people who actually “profit” by illegal stuff such as drugs, crimes, corruption etc (Ardita Maxharraj, 2014) We are used to the fact that some people have to work hard and still don’t achieve what they want, and on the other hand some people win millions by doing “nothing”. In my opinion, the elite group in Haiti has to “quit” from luxury and try helping poor people in creating a better living environment, while in Kosovo, opening factories and offering jobs to unemployment population is a way by which the unemployment would considerably reduce and the economy would improve. This is not a way by which we can contribute in developing our country and creating a stable
