Hitler, Nazi’s and Eugenics

The Nazi’s were strongly influenced by Eugenics movements, believing that Germany and the world could be improved by eliminating the so-called inferiors, as they believed this would increase productivity as well as reduce crime. While Hitler’s beliefs on Eugenics were based on policies to try and improve the Aryan race.
The Aryan race was the German’s “Master Race,” Aryans were supposed to be Nordic in appearance and were meant to be directly ancestral to Germans. The Nazi ideologies for the Aryan race were found in theories by Darwin, Nietzsche and Houston Chamberlain. Julius Lehmann who was a Munich publisher specializing in scientific racism and Eugenics influenced Hitler’s beliefs on Eugenics as he sent Hitler copies of his racist books in the early 1920’s. The books influenced Hitler so much that in March 1922 Hitler recommended that members of his Nazi party read Lehmann’s journals most specifically the one called Deutschland Erneurung. …show more content…

The first Nazi Eugenics policy was implemented in July 1933 as “The Law For The Prevention Of Hereditarily Diseased Offspring.” This law was the reason for the sterilization of 300,000 people between 1934 and 1935. The Nazi’s also passed “The Law For The Protection Of The Genetic Health Of The German People,” which meant that couples who wanted to marry had to get a certificate from the public health office showing that that both parties involved in the marriage would not produce genetically impure offspring.
