Gatsby, a man that has suddenly become and rich has moved to West egg, and Mr. De Winter, a man who has tragically lost his first wife,both share similarities between each other. In the novels, Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier , and ,The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald , they both share strong comparisons and contrasts like how Mr. Winter’s and Gatsby 's ways of presenting themselves are both similar. In fact, both Gatsby and Mr.De Winter both have certain subjects that they avoid or don 't speak of often. “For when I asked him what business he was in he answered, That 's my affair”(Gatsby 90). Gatsby tends to avoid anything to have to do with his business or his past. From time to time he will say something that does not coincide with what he always says when someone brings up his business or his past. In addition, Mr.De Winter reacts a certain way after his second wife Mrs.De Winter brings up his former wife, “He received it silently, making no comment”(Rebecca 38). Furthermore, there are strong contrast between Daisy and Mrs.DeWinter. “You look so cool ,You always look so cool”(Gatsby 119). This is how Daisy chooses to tell Gatsby that she loves him. Daisy should have made it clear that she loved Gatsby and not Tom. She is unclear about how she feels towards Gatsby and Tom. In addition, Mrs.DeWinter was straight to the point when talking to Mr.DeWinter about her feelings, “I do love you. I love you dreadfully”(Rebecca 52).
