The differences allow us to know which story is based more on spirituality. The gods throughout the legends are either angered or glad, but their reaction creates the history of the species.
The legend's differences are what allow the story to have a historical difference. When Grizzlies walked upright talks about how a daughter has kids with a bear making the Indian race. On the other hand, The Navajo has a ritual that brings the first of the human race to earth. The history shows how everyone's creation took place.
There are many similarities in these legends.
