The Crucible is a very well known playwright that was influenced by the Salem Witch Trials. With the play explaining to the reader how this event happened in their own story, it really shows how the act of manipulation by using false accusations can really change the direction on how people look at a situation. Aside from the plot itself, the playwright also has an excellent supply of characters to put the reader highly in depth of the play as well. While each character plays a solid role to get the plot flowing, many readers can examine, interpret, and distinguish on how they operate. Reverend Hale is a well respected man who is known to find the source of demonic possession and get rid of it. With his good reputation, it would be unlikely that his decisions were in the wrong until he sees that it’s not for the better good, which is want he wants, Salem and other towns to be at peace. Because of this and the fact that he is highly religious, it’s not wonder why he made the wrong decisions such as turning in John Proctor and a few others to face god even though there was zero logic behind this. Thus causing innocent people to die and letting liars of the hook. While we know that John Proctor is one of our protagonist in the play whose motivation is to end this nonsense and protect the ones he loves, including himself, Reverend Parris plays more of a slick role, attempting to take down John to protect his reputation and self being. Judge Danforth is similar to Parris as he to wants to keep his reputation after he knows he’s wrong but wants only good for the Town of Salem. Also similar to Reverend Hale, he justs wants to protect people but has his reputation get the best of him. With these characters, it seems as though John Proctor and Reverend Parris are in a dispute while Danforth plays Devil’s Advocate but picks the wrong
