Compare and Contrast The articles about the St. Louis and the Fresno family have many similarities and differences. Some of these similarities are they have both been displaced, they have to adjust to a new life, and of course they're refugees. A few they don't have in common are the years they happened, how many there were, and of course they are all refugees. Lots of refugees that are sent to places have harsh reasons behind them.
People who have been thrust into a completely unfamiliar situation where the differences in daily life leave a big gaping hole. They have to suddenly adjust to living in a completely different way. And often, refugees have to adjust to being in a situation where people might be unfair to them based on where they used to live or their way of life. Refugee children often feel the ache of losing their homes more profoundly than their elders. The article “Refugee and Immigrant Children: A Comparison” states “Once in Canada, they both have to endure the ‘push-and-pull’ forces of home and
Both Jewish and Polish immigrants left their homes to immigrate to the United States in order to provide a better life for themselves and their families. While it is hard to start a new life in a new country, many immigrants were joining someone they already knew in the United States. This aided in making their transition easier, even though they still faced difficulties. In addition, both Jewish and Polish immigrants found a way to maintain their unique cultures while also assimilating to American culture. They were able to do this in different ways with Jews having created neighborhoods and continued holiday traditions while Poles maintained their language and created a unique education
Immigrants can be said to be a person who comes to live in foreign country permanently. Every year, hundreds of thousands of immigrants, legal and illegal, from around the world, have come to the United States seeking a better life for themselves and their family. These immigrants have many different motivations; some enter the U.S hoping to get a chance of a better life; others are refugees, escaping civil wars or persecution in their country. Many of these immigrants believe the United States is the best place to go. There are more freedom, opportunities, protection and benefits which are important issues for immigrants.
Ha is an example of the universal refugee experience because she goes through things that many other refugees go through, such as the feeling of being “inside out” and not belonging anywhere. Ha has to learn a new language and a whole new way of life, she has to give up many of her old traditions and ways of life like many refugees do. A universal refugee experience is something that is experienced by not all, but most refugees. Ha started out stubborn and forceful before they fled their home, "I decided to wake before dawn and tap my big toe on the tile floor first," (Lai 2). Ha is angry that only men 's feet bring good luck and she will not let that be the case for she wants to bring luck to her family.
Have you ever wondered what it was like to live in the 1920s? The two works I chose to do this essay on are “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes and “next to of course god america I” by E.E Cummings. The theme developed in these poems is that if you stay in the box and follow society’s expectations then you will face disillusionment from reality. This is shown through many literary devices used throughout both of the poems. For instance, Mother to Son is the mother talking to her son directly about the hardships that he may have to face and she tries to prepare him for his future which causes disillusionment.
New Immigrants vs. Old Immigrants The united states is full of immigrants. A American is either an immigrant or has someone in their family who were one. A great period of immigration occurred during the 1800s on to the 1920s when two waves of immigrants came to American shores from Europe. Old immigrants arrived in the mid-1800s mostly coming from Northwestern Europe.
Others argue that immigrants should stay in the country they came from and not come to america. While on the other side people argue that immigrants should come to america and live how we live. The second argument is the right choice. Immigrants is just like americans and if they struggled in their country, they should have the right to come here. Imagine you as an immigrant who don’t have anything and want a better life.
Immigrants face many diffuculties from when they come to the country, raise children and cultural
The estimated number of refugees leaving their own country since World War II is one hundred million ("Refugee”). A refugee is a person who has left their country because of fear of their safety due to violence, race, religion, or war. Supporting and solving today’s refugee crisis is especially controversial because of the current events, financing, and security issues. ("Refugee Facts”). Climate change and natural disasters sometimes cause people to leave their homes or countries.
Alcoholism is a physical and emotional dependency on alcohol, many research have been conducted that links the excessive use of alcohol with the psychological, and physiological environment of the user. It is an adaptive behavior which usually develops over a period of years, just like any other drug, the user will develop a tolerance and has to increase the quantity needed. The mental symptoms in conjunction with the obsession to the chemical are seen as a mental disorder. The abuser loses the ability to rationalize despite the negative consequences resulting from the abuse of the substance. The “spirit” of choice does not exclude a person from becoming an addict, in fact a binge drinker that drinks and then stops until their next episode
A refugee is a person who has been forced to leave their home country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. There are many different types of refugees, these include refugees who are escaping war, social discrimination, racial discrimination, religious persecution, those who are seeking aid after a natural disaster, political unrest, and those who fear for their lives and the lives of their family. These people are given refugee status and are placed in designated refugee camps across the country where they are supposed to be cared for and educated, but this is not happening. Many of the countries only provide shelter for the refugees but do not provide the rest of the basic needs. There are many factors that contribute to a person becoming a refugee these include war, famine, racial prejudice, religion, harassment or torture due to political views, nationality, and natural disaster.
We must all work together to address it. We are all humans, refugees are just the same as us and the most important thing we share is our hope for peace and equality. It’s not their fault, stop blaming them for a decision you would have taken in the same situation. Imagine your brother or sister leaving his/her home for some issues and coming to live with you for somedays. That’s the same with immigrants, therefor, it’s time to show them our humanity, solidarity, and
