Simon Birch: Two boys overcome their own personal obstacles while becoming friends. Simon Birch was born with dwarfism, and because of that was hardly taken seriously in his life. In order to prove himself as “normal” he tries hard to be the hero in everyone’s lives so they treat him as they do anyone else. However, this causes many issues as his dwarfism causes many setbacks, but he believes that his size was a part of god’s plan and sets on a journey to figure out how what his purpose is. He meets Joe and suddenly feels hopeful in having a friend who understands him, with Joe they have an adventure helping each other with their individual goals. Many couldn’t understand why a seemingly normal boy like Joe was spending time with Simon, but Joe saw something in Simon that no one else did. He saw a friend, and he saw someone who was an outcast like him. The unstoppable duo went through misadventure after misadventure trying to reach their goals of self-discovery. Joe, having abandonment issues, is distraught without the information on who his father is. So Simon decides to help him figure it out. After breaking into the office of Mr. Birch to see if he was Joe’s father, their relationship grew stronger as Simon saw how badly being left in the dark has affected his friend.
