Scarlet Letter They said to him, “Teacher this woman has been in the act of adultery. Now in the law of Moses they commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with finger on the ground. And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you and be the first to throw a stone at her.” And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. But when they heard it they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. Jesus stood up and said to her, “where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “no one Lord.” And Jesus said, neither I condemned you: go and from now on sin for no longer. (John 8:4-11) Everyone agrees that Hester committed adultery. And some people believe that she should take off the scarlet letter while others believe that she shouldn’t take the letter off. Hester should have taken off the scarlet letter for these three reasons. Hester can sense freedom from her sin that she’s been carrying for a long time. Next, she can now be cared for. Finally, she can have a fulfilled life with her one and only daughter Pearl. Hester can feel the sensation of being treated more traditionally. With out the scarlet letter she will be able to forget about doing that certain sin. The voices of sin and torture can keep reminding her when she’s wearing it. Hester can feel free with
