Problem Statement / Introduction
Too many times single mothers are too trusting and allow individuals into their homes not realizing that the individual they are allowing into their home could be a pedophile with the main goal of causing harm to them and their children. The purpose of this White Paper is to help educate single mothers on the dangers of being too trusting with regards to their children and encourage them to trust their intuitions. I will provide research from websites that will help single mothers become more aware of child sexual predators and their tactics. Statistics show that 1 out of 4 girls and 1 out of 5 boys are sexually abused by the time they reach the age of 18. The overwhelming majority of these children are abused by someone they know, perhaps a family member, a close family friend, a member of clergy, or a youth leader. Society wants us to believe that the safest home environment is that were both biological parents are married. However, research has proven that even biological parents can be predators too. The safest home environment whether single or married is one that gives love and affection to their children and everyone is aware of it.
b. Minimizing the opportunity
There are many programs that teach parents and children the importance of safety. They teach safety about strangers, fires, seat belts and how to look both ways when crossing the street. We minimize opportunity for our children to be sexually abused when we lessen one on one time spent with others. Focusing on ways to avoid the isolation of a child with another person, and ways to create better transparency when our children are alone with others, can help reduce the opportunity and risk for abuse.
Be wary of anyone who offers to babysit your children ask yourself, why this person is so eager to babysit? It may seem ridiculous, but unfortunately this ploy has worked for many
