Introduction In this summative report we chose to collect data from martingrove students, this collection of data would allow for a comparison between their overall average and some factors that might affect their grades. This report will include a single variable analysis on the student averages per grade and the overall school average for all the students sampled. The double variable analysis will include the overall average and will analyze if hours spent on homework, hours working and hours of sleep affects their overall performance at school. Methodology Our method for collecting the data was to make an anonymous survey which consisted of six questions and we selected two classes per grade to do the survey. The type of sampling we use …show more content…

In this part of the report we will use the measures of central tendency and measures of spread such as standard deviation to further analyze the dependent variable. Below there are four different graphs showing the overall average distribution for each grade. The graphs below do not have any gaps since the dependent variable is …show more content…

The first extraneous variable in our experiment was our sample size according to the law of large numbers. The law of large numbers states that the accuracy and precision of the results is improved with more trials. Our results may not be so accurate since we only had a sample group of 150 students from a school that has 1000 students. Another extraneous variable is the classes we selected they may not accurately represent the population since we only selected academic classes. To be more accurate and representative of the population we should of have selected a few gifted, applied, ap and pre-ap classes as well. The last extraneous variable was the students which gave a false or misleading answers which obviously skewed our results. This is known as a response bias since the students gave an untruthful answer on purpose. We tried t eliminate this extraneous variable by telling them that this was for our summative and that it was worth 15% of our overall mark, yet many still took the survey as a
