While exploring they found an Island which is Roanoke Island they found this Island on July 4th. Barlowe found two Croatoans ( small Native American group living in the area) and there names are Manteo and Wanchese Barlowe brought them to England and the two men where able to describe the geography of the area to Sir Walter Raleigh.
On his 3rd expedition, Jean Francois aimed to establish a colony with him. After that, he returned to France earlier than he would have liked to because he had no success. Jacques Cartier led and went on a lot of voyages in North America in the 16th century. This made a significant impact on now’s exploration and colonization in Canada. He explored the Eastern coast of North America, and Newfoundland, and discovered and mapped out the interior of the Gulf of St Lawrence.
Christopher Columbus was one of the greatest explorers known to man. Columbus had many different reasons for his explorations. Later, the main reason for his explorations was selfishness. Just like many other explorers before Columbus, he wanted land, he wanted power, and he also wanted gold. The reason for his very first voyage to what he thought was India, but later was found out to be Central America, was to get land for Spain.
Sir Walter Raleigh’s proposal to start a colony in the New World was rooted in the selfish pursuit of attention for himself rather than the intention to establish a secure colony for the English. At this time, European countries had begun to see the economic benefits of starting colonies in the Americas. Sir Walter Raleigh established Roanoke “with the purpose of harassing Spanish shipping, mining for gold and silver, discovering a passage to the Pacific Ocean, and Christianizing the Indians.” Raleigh was active in Queen Elizabeth I’s court and his intellect charmed her into making him one of her closest and favorite subjects. Her favor was instrumental in Raleigh’s attempt to start a North American colony because without it, he would not have
Christopher Columbus as we know is the historical person credited for the discovery of the New World. Zheng He was a Hui-Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral, who commanded voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. Each men and their fleets had two completely different reason for their travel. Christopher Columbus purpose was to find a new trade way to the Asian countries. Zheng He's purpose was to enlarge empires control of seaway trade.

Sir Walter Raleigh explored from England and started his own colony called Roanoke. He voyaged to Roanoke twice. The first time was in 1584 and the second one was in 1585. Both times he was there, Raleigh abandoned the land. Sir Walter Raleigh headed back to England to fight against the Spanish and that’s when he needed someone to help him with the colony in Roanoke.
Many countries attempted to start colonies after the New World was discovered. During the late 1500’s England attempted to settle a permanent colony in present day North Carolina. Their purpose for sailing over to the New World was to interfere the shipping for Spain. With a blessing from Queen Elizabeth of England, Sir Walter Raleigh set off to the New World with the help of Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe in command of the ships. The first of the Roanoke Voyages came in 1584.
On April 27, 1584, Raleigh started an expedition led by Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to start exploring the east coast of North America. They found Roanoke Island 1585. Two of the local Indians there were the Croatoans and the Secotans. There was two Croatans that returned back to England with Barlowe who described the area. He came across new trade routes and wanted to obtain Africa’s resources for Portugal. He also wanted to explore to find the legendary Christian empire of the priest-king PresterJohn which ended up not existing. Henry The Navigator was one of the initiators of the Age of Discovery, he was not a Navigator but he did sponsor many explorations. Henry The Navigator was addressed as the governor of the Algarve.
Emphasis was placed on travelling by ship, as famous explorers like Henry the Navigator and Vasco de Gama launched explorations to try and find new passages to the West Indies. Possibly the most important voyage began by a European explorer during the Age of Exploration was Christopher Columbus’ journey, sponsored by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. The goal of Columbus’ journey was, like other explorers during that time period, to find the shortest route possible to the world’s largest trading centers located in China, India, and islands off of Asia known as the West Indies. However, during Columbus’ journey, his ship
Queen Elizabeth had been queen for nearly a quarter of century. Sir Walter Raleigh, Elizabeth’s most popular porter, tries to get Queen Elizabeth to allow him to build a colony in the new world. Sir Walter Raleigh was an English writer, poet, spy and explorer. He is also well known for popularizing tobacco in England. Year of 1591, Walter fell in love with the queen's “lady in waiting”, Elizabeth and got married without authorization. 1592, he and his wife had a baby boy believed to be named Damerei, (Day-merry-aye) but sadly they weren't able to take care of him so they gave him to a “wet-nurse”. A wet nurse is a nurse more or like a foster parent who takes care of the children when its parents aren't able to.
