The plot foundation for “Invitation to a Murder,” written by Josh Pachter, was based on situational irony. The title of the story was even an example of situational irony. The detectives, investigators, police men, and others among the 12 men were invited to witness a murder of Gregory Abbott. However, Eleanor mischievously planned for the men to take part in the felony. Eleanor Abbott was the wife of her husband, Gregory Abbott. Eleanor Abbott conscientiously wrote invitations about the approaching death of her husband. Twelve highly respected men obtained the letter announcing the impending murder. To describe, she told them her husband planned to have an enjoyable time on a skiing trip. Unfortunately, he lost his balance; therefore, Gregory Abbott fell down the hill. He was rushed to the hospital and fortuitously survived. Gregory Abbott was fully paralyzed. The situational irony in this event was the fact that Gregory Abbott expected to please himself by experiencing skiing. Nevertheless, he ended up becoming a paralytic man. Although the doctors considered Gregory Abbott alive, Eleanor did not categorize being totally paralyzed as alive. She honestly told the men she wished to kill her husband to cease the horror the doctors revealed to her. Eleanor did not believe her husband was the same man he was before the fatal accident. Eleanor invited the twelve men to witness the murder because she wanted to give them a chance to stop her from disobeying the law. Between the hours of 9:30 and 11:00 pm, she would murder her husband unless she was interrupted by the men. Eleanor quickly walked to the table of weapons; she picked up an amber bottle of poison. She fooled all of the highly honored men. Finally, at 10:59, Gregory’s eyelids closed and he stopped breathing. The twelve men were flabbergasted; meanwhile, Eleanor was satisfied. Eleanor explained to them the drug was crucial for Gregory’s survival. Despite, the stimulant is fatal for a normal heart rate. She tried to accuse the men as the murderers. After all, she explained to them that each time they restrained her, his heart became weaker. She confronted them by telling the twelve criminologists that there were two choices. She told them they could lie by turning her in or assist her in being found innocent. The gentlemen knew that if they were found guilty, their careers would be over. The twelve experts Eleanor invited ended up becoming Eleanor’s jury. After their discussion, Eleanor was found felonious. She was guilty of first degree murder. Branigan, one of the men, picked up the amber bottle and went towards Eleanor. Eleanor understood the gesture and consequence. Several examples of situational irony occurred.
