Personal Statement During my childhood, I was into many things and because of that I wanted everything. But one thing that had me fascinated were skateboards. After sometime of asking my mother, she finally bought me a skateboard and some protective gear, you know the essentials for skating. I was excited and my heart was pumping with joy, so I put on the helmet and the rest of the gear. Since it was my first skateboard, I had no knowledge on how to ride it, the moment i stood on it i fell backwards and hurt myself. After that I realized how scary it is to try something new I have never experienced before and because of this accident did not want to go through that again. This is actually pretty ironic because people would think that if you have a fear of trying something new you would not talk to strangers. In college, you have to be able to talk to new people and ask for help if you need it. During the first week of my senior year we do nothing, but, get to know our classmates. In a class like Health Ed, where all the students from different grade levels get grouped, there are freshmen that show a great deal of shyness because it is their first day of high school. Our first task for that class was to form groups and choose items from a list that would be more important in a shipwreck. In the group were five people, including a friend. I was the only one expressing my opinion but that wasn’t going to cut it, so I stopped working. After i stopped I asked them for their opinion, at first everyone was just saying “I don’t know” . I asked each one of them what they thought of each item on the list. After a while one of them started talking about what was essential for the team and why. This started in argument between the group, but that was exactly what we were supposed to be doing since the beginning. At the end we lost the competition but now those in my group had now a little more confidence in speaking their
