The definition of the word slaughter is ‘to kill in a violent or brutal manner.’ (n.d.,2017) In our minds we recognize violence as being wrong and immoral no matter who the victim may be. Unfortunately, disgusting acts are happening every day behind the closed-doors slaughter houses around the world. Many others and myself, believe that theses slaughter houses should be shut down for some obvious reasons. They have horrible living conditions, they are harming our environment, and they are unnecessary for our survival. First of all, slaughter houses everywhere are being exposed for mistreatment of animals. There are videos going viral all over the internet everyday to raise awareness of the suffering of factory farmed animals caused by unnecessary acts of violence and suffering inflicted by workers. It has been found that people who avoid eating meat are 40% less likely to developpe cancer oppose to those who consume meat on a daily basis. First, meat is devoid of fiber and other nutrients that have a protective effect. Meat also contains animal protein, saturated fat, and, in some cases, carcinogenic compounds such as heterocyclic amines (HCA) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) formed during the processing or cooking of meat. HCAs, formed as meat is cooked at high temperatures, and PAHs, formed during the burning of organic substances, are believed to increase cancer risk.
