Even though slavery has been the subject of long, heated debates. There were numerous underlying forces and specific events that contributed to the growing opposition. Which included social reform, and the polarization of the North and South. These became the major factors in the growing opposition of slavery. All of the Northern states allowed slavery to remain in the constitution but soon they quickly abolished slavery in their states. Which was they thought everyone should be free and equal no matter their color, complexion, or shape of noses. Women like Angelina Grimke urged other women to help push social reform, whether it was women’s suffrage, temperance, or in Grimke case, abolition of slavery (doc F). William LLoyd Garrison, editor of the anti slavery “the liberator” was a voice for “immediate emancipation without compensation” In (doc E) Garrison founded anti slavery throughout the North that both helped African Americans, freedom, and runaways.
