The Legends Who Abolished Slavery
Slavery was abolished in 1865, but some so many people were impacted by the end of it. Now, I’m sure you’re familiar with some of the many people who impacted the end of slavery. These people are called abolitionists, the people who believed that slavery was wrong, there are many heroes such as Harriet Tubman who used the underground railroad. There's Sojourner Truth, a speaker who uses her voice to speak out against abolition and women's rights. And William Lloyd Garrison was a writer who talked about equality and the abolishment of slavery. Based on the document “Sojourner Truth, the Libyan Sibyl,” Truth says “the Lord gave me Truth because I was to declare the truth to the people.” This shows that she was going to declare the truth because she believed that is what she had to do. She respected and worshiped the Lord, so she would travel miles to tell the people what slavery was really about. So because she felt this was her duty she was willing to do anything to help people see what they’ve believed for so many years is wrong. My second piece of evidence is from the speech ‘Ain't I a Woman?’ she declares “I have borne thirteen children and seen most all sold off to slavery, and when I cried out with my mother's grief, none but Jesus heard me!” This shows that she is not hiding the fact of what's happening in her life, and by sharing her story people now know the truth. This woman had gone through so much and no one would have known if she had not told people. This information, just might open a few people's eyes and change their point of view to see things from all the slave's perspectives. According to the video titled ‘Harriet Tubman’s road to freedom’ it stated “she ran away from slavery, then risked her freedom to free others.” This proves that she used her life to help others, not because she had to, but because she wanted to. She was truly a hero to so many people and helped the other slaves by going through the underground railroad. Another example from the video is that when they are talking about Harriet and what she did they stated “as a young woman who had a force of will that was almost unbreakable, and she was a superhero because of that… the more you discover about Harriet Tubman the more you realize she had to be a superhero” This is important because it shows what others think of her as well, people see her as a hero. And the more you learn about her, the more you see how much she did for others, what she sacrificed just to help others.
