In many fairy tales, the original stories have been altered to be more kid friendly and appropriate for younger audiences. Through Disney movies, the audience only sees the perfect lives and “happily ever after” endings. However, the original tales were much distanced from the Hollywood produced movies. The original tales were much more gruesome and had much more raw elements to it. Many of the original fairy-tales included death, self mutilation, and revenge. The original Sleeping Beauty had such elements as those, including rape, which most people are not aware of. She would then awake by true love’s kiss. As Sleeping Beauty is in her sleep in a castle, a prince who was riding past entered and went up to her room. She awoke from the prince’s true love kiss. They left the castle and went off to get married and live happily ever after. However, the original story differs in some aspects. Sleeping Beauty, or also known as Briar Rose, was an originally oral story which was then written and published by the Grimm Brothers. Sleeping Beauty was not in fact put to sleep because of a curse, but because of a prophecy. However, the most striking difference between the two adaptations is the manner in which Sleeping Beauty wakes up from her coma state. In the original story, the prince enters the castle in which Sleeping Beauty is in. He doesn't kiss her as all believe. Instead, he rapes her while she was unconscious. The baby then pulled a piece of flax from Sleeping Beauty’s finger, which was keeping her asleep.
