Evaluation of the proposal Smokeout Introduction The purpose of this report is to evaluate the proposal SmokeOut, written by a student of HW0188 Engineering Communication I course. The proposal was taken from HW0188 Engineering Communication I, Student Course Guide. Description Existing applications that promote smoking cessation are able to track down one’s cigarette consumption through user input. However, the accuracy of such cannot be assured, since details are keyed in by the users themselves. Moreover, quitting smoking is not an easy task, especially in the absence of family support. The proposal SmokeOut aims to tackle the above-mentioned issues by keeping track of one’s carbon monoxide level via a detector. It also comes with a smartphone application that enables accurate monitoring of daily cigarette consumption. Through this mean, family and friends can also monitor the progress and provide moral support. Objective This report aims to evaluate the proposal for SmokeOut through 3 criteria; mainly organization, clarity of writing and correctness of language used. Background, problem, solution, benefits, implementation, cost/budget, and conclusion were used as sub-headings to sectionalise the proposal which helps readers to better understand the information provided. Good paragraphing techniques were used to improve the clarity of the proposal as well as the ease of reading. In addition, there is a good use of bulleting under implementation to spell out the procedures in a sequential manner. Cost/budget were clearly shown with the use of bulleting as well. The insertion of diagrams under solution aid readers to better visualise the product. Citation was done correctly in the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering) format.
