So Mote It Be by Tracy Licklider So Mote It Be translates into so shall it be or so must it be. The pagan community uses it now as a way of closing a magickal working or spell. It also has been translated as the truth has been spoken or verily the truth. That comes from its Freemason history. It has been used as a different way of saying Amen, or an agreeing with what has been said. To me this phrase has always been a closing of a spell, or magickal working. I first learned about it years ago in the books that I could get a hold of in secret (my husband at the time believed it was all evil devil worship). It was just one of the terms that was used to close the spell. I didn't understand its reference to the Divine. I learned since then the true meaning of the phrase. I now believe that it is saying that

It is important to know the history of the words we use. It all comes back to the respect that is due. This phrase has been around for longer than has been recorded. It is immersed in this history and still used in a very powerful way. I know nothing yet about numerology, but the words “Amen, So Mote It Be” have a numeric value of 517 which is exactly the same as the Greek words the Law and Door or Threshold. Just the words “So mote it be” equals 441 the same as the Hebrew word Truth. I found this very interesting and when I get to the numerology classes I will study it more. I find it proof that the Divine is in everything. This phrase of “So Mote It Be” is a direct expression of willing your deity to fulfill your wish, or saying something intended must be accomplished by your will, an affirmation that magic is real and will work.
