The Progressive era was a time for change and improvement, but the reforms didn’t come as easily as expected. The Progressive era’s goal was to spread social activism and political reform to eliminate corruption and injustices. Many people fought for rights and better work environments but were pushed aside for a while. Some reforms were put on hold because of convenience, it was easier for people to continue what they were doing rather than make a change for the better of society. Those in bad situations tried to do something about it and when they finally had the courage to speak up to protect themselves they were shut down. Society didn’t take action to solve the problem for the women until it was too late, sometimes it takes a disaster for people to fully realize the problems of the situation. Other stories and books, like The Jungle, showed people what life was like for poor immigrants, but even then people were more focused on the quality of food being produced; which was still helpful but not the point. America stands for freedom and liberty, unless one is not deemed a true American. These workers suffered and worked with very little rights, the public barely batted an eye. President Theodore Roosevelt used federal power to conserve and preserve nature and create national parks. It was to reform how the nation was treating the natural resources and wildlife. The preservation of nature helped the US regulate natural resources to keep the economy growing and prevent people from destroying what was left. The New Nationalism program was also created to expand federal power over the economy. The government was trying to help with the problems created by industrialization.
