The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald was a novel that always kept the reader on their toes, and a movie that made the observer feel apart of it. F. Scott Fitzgerald had began drafting this book in 1920, and published the novel in 1925. Since the book was published in 1925 this time period was known as the jazz era. The jazz era was a time for many people to have parties, dance, economic prosperity, and carefree living for many according to “1920s: A Decade of Change”. Jay Gatsby was well known for the elaborate parties that he would throw during the story. People from all over would travel to come to these parties he would put on. “Somebody told me they thought he killed a man once (Fitzgerald 44)”. Although one thing was true in Gatsby's life, and that was the fact that there is a very obvious difference in how people interact with others from different social classes. Even tho Nick and Gatsby are on different levels of wealth they still end up becoming very close. When the two men start getting to know each other better, Nick is informed that Gatsby has a strong love for his cousin Daisy. Although the problem with this is that she is married to Tom Buchanan. A few years back Gatsby had actually been with Daisy and that is where the feelings he had for her had come from. Unfortunately, they were not able to stay together since her parents did not like that he was not a wealthy man. Since Gatsby was not able to be with Daisy because of this reason, it was a motivation for him to become wealthy to attract her back to him. “Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay” (63). Gatsby had become completely obsessed with Daisy and seemed to the point that he would do anything he could to win her love back. He would though large parties in hopes she would show up, look for her name in the news paper, and would stare out at the green light every night that shone across the water. The first thing I had noticed were the beautiful paintings of a woman named Daisy. I had began to realize that must be the woman that my uncle had been madly in love with. I had never known that my great uncle could paint. Underneath the paintings were love letters that he had written for Daisy, but was never able to give them to her. In the letters he had talked about how he would stare out to the light at the end of her dock every night, look for her name in the news paper, and ask around about her all of the time.
