After gaining a better understanding of Macro practice, in my opinion macro practice does not necessarily mean you’re always indirectly dealing with clients. I still feel macro practice empowers clients by involving them in systemic change. Macro social work looks at the larger picture and how the larger picture works and what is needed to change social injustice for all. I think that social work as a profession is meant to support clients be all they can be and to assist clients to benefit themselves. Macro social work practice has also been described as the indirect practice, distinguishable from the direct micro- and mezzo-focus and action with clients, families and small groups.
During the new south period many groups gained new freedoms. African Americans in particular gained the right to vote, and citizenship, but that wasn't the end of the racial injustices they faced. Jim Crow laws prevented them from interracial marriage, using white only utilities, and many other things. Furthermore, Anti-Semitism troubled the Jewish population. Finally riots broke out between whites, and blacks such as the riot of 1906.

An event named after the bloodshed of both whites and African Americans, the Red Summer of 1919 was a violent affair stemming from the tension between the two races.
The Progressive Era, from 1890- 1920 was an influential time in American history. There was political reform in an effort to bring about social justice, but it was also a time when big businesses thrived. However, in the past their prominence and power went unchecked, now liberal radicals started fighting for justice, making the government control the corporations before they destroyed the country. The racial and injustices different races have to deal with in America. Being black and hispanic in America can be unfair. Dealing with police brutality, mass incarceration, racial profiling are things that describe what some black and hispanics deal with on a day to day basis. Author Nicole Gonzalez Van Cleve goes into depth of how hispanics and people of color are treated in the court system of the United states. When stepping inside a hospital to receive help, one should expect care, treatment, and respect. However, shown in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and “Howl,” American society equates mental illness with inhumanity. In both texts, the characters are forced to live without basic human freedoms and a voice to change it. Society pressures the mentally ill into becoming submissive counterparts of the community by stripping away their physical freedoms, forcing inhumane treatment, and depriving them the freedom of expression. By pressuring confinement and treating the patients inhumanely, society strips away their freedom to express themselves.
In the novel, Invisible Man, the narrator is always in pursuance of justice. His consistent search is driven by his inability to be treated as an equal in this white man’s society. As he fought for justice for the “dispossessed” the Narrator was constantly faced with injustice. Although his success seemed positive in the eyes of others, it had a negative impact on his life as a whole.
During this week, we have covered numerous topics, none more prominent than the oppression of women. Everyone had different opinions, allowing me to take into account different views on the issue. In one of the texts we examined, “Oppression”, Marilyn Frye, a philosopher, debates the subjugation of women. She states the cultural customs that causes oppression of women. I do agree with her view that women are oppressed, but I do not agree that it is just women.
It all started when we decided to go explore the river behind my house. Being only two weeks after we moved to the hot, humid, golf town of Augusta, Georgia we didn’t know what to expect of the trail behind the house. The pastor’s wife and daughters came to help us move in. The two daughters, Lizzie and Hannah, wanted to see if the trail behind the house went all the way to the Savannah River, little did we know that would begin one of the most thrilling but terrifying adventure of our lives. In Gorgias, Socrates was having a conversation with Polus and through this dialogue Socrates reached to establishing a hierarchy of wrongs. Socrates classified that doing injustice is much worse than suffering injustice. Another idea Socrates states is that doing wrong act and escaping punishment is much worse than being punished on that act since punishment can remove the evil from a person’s soul. I am going to discuss these ideas as I think that doing injustice is not as bad as suffering injustice.
George Orwell wrote Animal Farm, is a fairy story that talks about animals overthrow the man who is the farm’s owner, and then there is one group becomes the capitalist instead the previous owner; this farm reveals a vicious cycle of tyranny.
