Social justice is not a phrase that we use everyday. Maybe because it isn’t a subject that should be spoken of during dinner, or maybe because we as people don’t see it as often as we should. The simulation, “The Cradle” shows the “social justice” people have lived with for years.
Even though some may not realize it, we act like the ants in A Bug’s Life. The middle and lower class work hard for their earnings, while the upper class gets all the benefits. During the simulation, it became evident that the food was not distributed equally. My group, Kish, was one of the lower class groups. Even though we survived, we started with only four food compared to Uruk who started with forty. Uruk had the leisure of not worrying about their food, they could give up quite a bit and still have more than twelve. Kish, however, sold all but one product in order to survive.

People are usually born into wealth or poverty. They need different work ethics in order to provide for themselves and their families. The resources that the upper class gets are very different than what the lower class gets. Often times, the wealthy are favored because they have all the money. The people who favor them realize the economy depends on them. Just like in the simulation where one group had a lot of food and ended up keeping the others alive.
The dictionary defines social justice as, “justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society.” This is not reality. It couldn’t ever really be a reality because we as humans like to separate ourselves. We don’t want everything to be equal because each of us wants to be the best, it’s human nature. Humans are selfish, we don’t want to share. If we did, everyone would feel equal and therefore, nobody would be special. Social justice looks great on paper, but in real life, it wouldn’t be
