In the following paper, I will explain the cognitive and social development of my life in regards to Jean Piaget’s developmental theory. Using the four stages, I will describe how I have related to each one, and how I have changed and developed throughout my life. I will also be comparing my development to Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory and John Bowlby’s Attachment Theory. I have also included a lot of information from many different sources that describes my life from when I was born up until today. My mom, Lisa Kay Kriener, had a scheduled appointment to go to the doctor at 5:00 a.m. on December, 11, 1996 for a spinal cesarean birth, just like she did with my older brother. I was born at exactly 6:58 a.m. that day in Decorah, Iowa, and I weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and was 21 inches tall. Everything during my birth went good; I was a good, healthy baby. My mother’s due date was originally December 16, so I was only 5 days early. She got to leave the hospital to go home 3 days later, and my brother was so excited to finally see us. Schemas are categories of knowledge that help us decipher and figure out the world. As we experience more throughout our life, new information changes our previous existent schemas (Cherry, 2015). Piaget called the schema the “basic building block of intelligent behavior- a way of organizing knowledge” (McLeod, 2015, para. 16). Because my mother bottle fed me as a baby, I started to learn a constant pattern. Once I was hungry, I would start to cry because I wanted someone to feed me. Another example of a schema is when I watched the Teletubbies. When my parents had me first watch it, I did not know what it was, but once they kept putting it on for me, it stuck with me in my head, and I remembered what it was.
