Activism has been a part of the lives of many people across the world. As a result of the activism, people have been able to air their concerns thus pressurizing the authorities to act responsibly and in the right manner. He states that people from different locations of the globe can contribute to assisting others despite the distance separating them. Through the social media, the author argues that ideas of activism have been circulating very fast in the recent past due to the availability of Facebook and Twitter. Gladwell provides an example of Iran where the revolution began outside the country through a well-known blogger in the United States. The Iranians could only see English written information with an ending of hash tag “#IranElections”. The president used the social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to expose people to his ideas. As a result, he won the elections unopposed with a surrender margin. Therefore, the example shows that ideas can simply spread to different people through the internet.
The second example is the Egyptian revolution which saw the then dictator ousted out of power by the citizens through the influence of the social media. The influence was brought about by the contributions brought upon by people from different parts of the world. Therefore, the example shows us how people have been united by the internet to bring about transformation despite their location in the Globe.
The third example is the Tunisia revolution which came as a result of the presence of the internet. The police shot a student who had possessed stolen vegetables since he could not secure a job within his profession. As a result, the Arab world was made aware of the bad regime of the 23 year old president which had caused economic depression in the country.
