It is time to rethink whether we should use social media. Social media plays a vital role in our daily life. Social media connects friends and family around the world. People share pictures, videos, and thoughts on social media. But there are two sides to every coin. Instead of having so many positive sides, using of social media have negative sides too. Recent research shows that excessive use of social media can lead people to social isolation. Social isolation means lack of personal connection between individuals. Students now spend more times on social media than studies. Students who use Facebook often tend to have lower grades than other students who have no Facebook account. Most of the time they use a mobile phone or iPad during their classes. They do not pay attention to their teacher. Younger generations like to communicate through a wide range of online platforms, but they are not using proper spelling and grammar, which is why they are not developing their language skill. Sometimes it is hard to understand the context of the message. According to NewsRx Health & Science (2013, May 5), “The widespread use of media among college students - from texting to chatting on cell phones to posting status updates on Facebook - may be taking an academic toll”. This is because they do not like to attend their classes regularly. Instead of understanding the lessons they just take pictures what teacher write on the board and send it to their other friends.
