a. What social work values are most central to you? How should they be incorporated into social policies?
The social work values that are most central to me include service to humanity, social justice, human dignity and worth, integrity, and competence. Most importantly, the value of services to humanity is central to me and the foundation for the additional social work values that are central to me because it reflects the importance of helping others and having the ability to put others’ needs before my own, which I feel is the basis for effectively practicing social work. In addition, the social work values social justice and human dignity and worth reflect the importance of all individuals having access to all resources, opportunities, and equal treatment nondependent of their background, believes, or values. Equally important, the social work value of integrity is highly important in building a strong rapport with clients which is the foundation of the working relationship. Often time’s clients do not feel they have the ability to create change in their lives let alone creating change at the policy level. This barrier would be addressed by empowering and supporting the client in the involvement in social policy formation. An additional barrier to a client getting involved with social policy formation includes lack of knowledge regarding the social policy formation. Although some clients do have the desire to get involved with the formation of social policies some possibly do not have the knowledge of how to get involved. This could be easily addressed by providing a client with the contact information for a state or city representative or providing additional information that will allow understanding of how they can get
