All the elements and conflicts presented in the book leads to the theme of socialism. Upton Sinclair is a supporter of the socialist move. To the point of writing this work is to elicit sympathy for the working class and build support for socialism. Everything within the book is criticizing capitalism; the only remedy for the evils of capitalism is socialism (Sinclair). In capitalism, the upper-class keep getting richer by exploiting the lower working class, leaving a wide gap between the wealthy and the impoverished.
I strongly agree that Bernie Sanders should be the president of the United States of America because of the fact that he has a lot of experience with that. Bernie Sanders was the Mayor of Burlington Vermont from 1981 to 1989 which is about 8 years. He was then elected to the House of Representatives in 1991, where he remained until 2007, at the time he was elected to the U.S. Senate. Sanders was re-elected to the Senate in 2012, and has continued to be in that capacity to the present day. If my math is correct that is 32 years in actual elective office.
As a former leader of the free world, President Obama evidences and clarifies the benefits and defining qualities of a democracy that encourages for the formation of more democratic forms of government. “Governments that respect the rights of their citizens and abide by the rule of law do better, grow faster, draw more investment than those who don’t” (President Obama). This respect not only establishes a peaceful relationship between the government and its people but also allows freedom to reign. This analysis of the effects of democracy on human rights is necessary, for it is quite evident that in authorities and monarchies these same freedoms are not granted.

He considered himself an independent public reformer following in the traditions of nation minded statesmen such as Alexander Hamilton, Henry Clay, George Washington and, Abraham Lincoln. I am in agreement with the article in Discover the Networks intitled; “The Welfare States’s cost to American Taxpayers” that says, “If converted entirely to cash, these benefits equal more than five times the amount of money needed to lift every poor person in the United States out of poverty” (2012). The Federal Income Tax returns filed in the United States is approximately 143 million.

Polanyi describes the double movement as two opposing movements. On one had there was the idea of the market and on the other is the want of society to intrude production and distribution. There are many types of democracies but in my essay I will explain only two types of democracies which are direct democracy and liberal democracy Direct democracy is a form of democracy where citizens are given an extraordinary amount of participation in the legislation process and granting them a maximum political self determination.
