Sociology is described as the study of human society. Sociological imagination is important in the field of nursing. There are three main theoretical perspectives and there is one that is relevant in the field of nursing. Sociology is very important to know why humans interact the way that they do with society.
Sociology is the study of humans within society. This is made up of what humans do everyday out into society, and how it interacts within human life. Sociology makes up what all we do within our society and how we interact with one another and our emotions within the society. A sociological imagination is important within the nursing field.

The first is structural functionalist perspective, which has parts that all work together to keep the society afloat. This keeps society stable, and this helps to keep society going. This keeps order within the society. The next conflict perspective, which blames the structure of society for the inequality that can lead to benefits for one and not for the other. Basically, it is not equal for all. For example, if someone were starving, the wealthier would be able to buy more food than those who aren’t as wealthy. This theory doesn’t show that certain parts of society that are equal for certain individuals. The last is that of symbolic interactionism, which tries to understand society and examine the interactions between the people. This is where we see that symbolic meanings are attached to objects and things that people find important. I feel that nursing is most like the structural functionalist perspective. There are certain rules and orders that keep my hospital afloat within the society. The leaders within the society help to make sure that there is order within the hospital so that the societal aspect is kept up within the
