The study of Sociology really surprised me in a good way. It allowed me to view society from different light as though I was learning it for the first time. Although many of the topics I was already familiar with, Sociology really allowed me to understand much better how society makes the world go round. I definitely have a greater respect for it. There were many topic that I enjoyed throughout the course such as the history of Sociology all the way to chapter 13 that discussed how people and society views Education and religion, but the topics I found most interesting where Socialization, Race and Ethnicity, Deviance and Social Control, Politics and Economy and Education and Religion. Friends, family members, and group or organization are the main culprit for the indoctrination of this type of hatred of other genders or races. This allowed me to open my eyes to many different forms of hatred regarding different types of ethnicities. This chapter covered individual discrimination and authoritarian person are perfect example about how people from different races stereotype people based on their color. Although there is probably some truth do this, I thought the home mortgage example was a terrible comparison were minorities were less likely to receive a home load then majorities. Although this may be true based on the annual income, but isn’t credit score another deciding factor when it comes to purchasing a home? This chapter also talks about how dominate groups treat minority genocide, which is to destroy another group such as Germany did against the Jews during WWII. Another is population transfer, which is split into two groups direct and indirect. Direct is by producing physical force and indirect is by provided unsatisfactory conditions that eventually push the group away by their own choice. When I first read about deviance, I through it was just an act that people participate in that isn’t considered “right” in their eye. Furthermore, that all deviance acts were basically universal. Although that’s partially true, all counties and civilizations have different acts that they consider violation of their standards. Another important aspect is the fact that norms are crucial to each society to maintain order and eliminate chaos. Norms are so important because they are guidelines that each society uses to maintain social order. When these rules or morals are broken then it can lead to disciplinary action, also referred to as negative sanction, which is usually an informal action leading to serious jail or prison time depending on the extent of the action. The section in this chapter that really caught my attention, however was genetic predisposition, which are internal biological genes that we inherit that increases a person’s chance of creating deviants acts. I found this very interesting because I always thought that every person has control over their own decisions in life and everyone knows that difference between right and wrong and that everyone is responsible for their own actions. However, Sociobiologists believed that genetics within our body, such as males who “have an extra Y chromosome” are more likely to commit crimes and end up in jail. At
