A. I learned a lot of things while i watched the documentary on the MS-13s. They do a lot of things that i never knew people could do. There are so many members in this gang and everyone wants to be higher and higher up each day. A good term from our sociology book that i connected to the documentary was Competition. Competition in biology and sociology, is a contest between two or more organisms, animals, individuals, groups, etc., for territory, a niche, for a location of resources, for resources and goods, for mates, for prestige, for recognition, for awards, for group or social status, or for leadership.
This has been a trend though, during the late 1600s Maria Sisa and a few other women sued their employer for two years of back wages. Ultimately Sisa and others would not win as the judge believed housing was enough in return for hard work (Sloan 2011). In the 1980s, as a result of a neoliberal influence in Latin America women were forced to pick up jobs that were not deemed suitable for them and work for wages less than men because men were losing wages and jobs. Female labor is undervalued and women are considered a burden in the workforce. If they are unskilled they are thrown out and replaced (Wilson 2014).
The “Outsiders” made me think about the rules that groups give us are strongly founded on what they see as defiance. It made me think that some rules are given within a group are not remotely necessary and that we as a society are to blame for what is deemed as “socially acceptable”. Deviants may not even be actually deviants but that’s what they are labeled by society because they think, what the deviant did was wrong, which could be made up by what society thinks is okay behavior. The relation to this reading and the sociology course shows how society controls us and how they consider we should act. It reminded me of how society tells us as women that showing off our body parts is deemed as trashy and not lady like, but men can do so without
I am Densia Wray, a sophomore at City College majoring in Political Science and possibly Public Relations or minoring in Journalism. My decision to pursue these majors came after thoroughly enjoying my Intro to Media Communications and Intro to Political Science classes, as well as my desire to create local and societal change. Although it took a while for me to make this decision, once I started listening to what I really wanted and not what I thought was wanted from me I realized what I really want to do with my life. Ever since my first real introduction to the world and its realities in my high school English classes I knew that my purpose was not to conform to what society wants from me but to challenge society to change. Over the summer
The most important independent factors were demographics and background, study experiences and behaviors, sociological imagination, and learning style. McKinney hypothesizes that success in the major is based on doing well academically and feeling engaged in the discipline. The data was collected from self-administered questionnaires of 114 senior sociology majors at Illinois State University, a mid-sized, public, Midwestern university. No sampling was used as almost the entire population of graduating sociology majors was analyzed, minus seven students who did not complete the questionnaire. The research method used was a voluntary, anonymous, self-administered questionnaire with closed- and open-ended questions.

Sociological Perspectives are different perspectives of how to view the world. The three sociological perspectives are the functionalist theory, the conflict theory, and the interactionalist theory. Robert Merton and Emile Durkheim are considered to have founded functionalism. Functionalism emphasizes the way in which the parts of a society are structured to maintain its stability. Functionalists believe that all parts of society are linked together.
In sociology, there are three theoretical perspectives; symbolic interactionism, functional analysis and conflict theory. The major point of symbolic interactionism is to use symbols to help understand how we as a society view the world, and how we communicate with one another. In functional analysis, the major point is to look at society as a whole, constructed of various parts, or groups, that all have their own function. Lastly, conflict theory is the opposite of functional analysis. In this perspective, society is viewed as different groups, each competing for power, or dominance.

The elusive relation of rational knowledge about the natural world and theology during the Middle Ages, both in Christendom and Islamdom, remains a topic of discussion among historians. When we refer to the search of rational knowledge related to nature in the Middle Ages, it is important to remember that we are not speaking about modern-day science. Probably, the best way to refer to the endeavor of investigating the natural world in this period is to employ the term natural philosophy: a field concerned with the explanation of natural phenomena by means of reasoning. While some argue that natural philosophy and theology were clearly different in this epoch, others state that there was no distinction between them. For instance, Grant has
I spent a year working towards this degree and eventually decided that I should be honest with myself. If I wanted to live up to the example my parents set and love what I do, I had to be honest with myself and pursue what it is I felt I was meant to do. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family and am still thankful to this day that I followed my heart and my gut instinct. My undergraduate studies at Kent State helped me significantly in my decision pursuing a career in school counseling.
According to the Dictionary, Sociology is defined as the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society. This means that people are willing to study social problems throughout the world and the society that they live in. In my life, I deal with my social class, Gender, Race, Religion, and the time I was born. Because of who I am, I definitely have been a part of a different upbringing and lifestyle that many sociologist may find interesting.
