I heavily disagree with this claim as others may do too. One moment that proved this clearly was when Ponyboy was talking to Cherry. The upper-class people may suffer though different problems as lower class people do.
The study showed that children from middle-class families were more likely to attend a nice school, participate in extracurricular activities, and be better educated. However, children from working-class and poor families typically had to find ways to entertain themselves. The findings from the research supported Lareau’s original thesis that social class had a greater impact on children than race because the middle-class families that were studied had different racial backgrounds. Lareau explained this in Unequal Childhoods (2011) by stating that “Class, in some instances, is more important than race” (Lareau p. 256). Social class matters and in fact it is a big marker on the identity of a child. In Where We Stand: Class Matters, bell books states, “Three important things I learned in school: 1) money matters, 2) status goods matters, 3) where you live matters” (p.10). Here we see that systems of power work against working class children by constantly questioning their values, and talents causing them to be torn between two worlds. It is only after attending school that children see the difference between themselves and their peers. For instance in the story Juice struggles with reading.

A democracy is a form of government that is ruled by the people and controlled by the people. For example, here in the United states which is a democracy, everyone is allowed to vote and have land. Also, everyone is allowed to practice a religion of their choice. Athens was truly democratic because everyone had the equal justice, people were voted into office, and one’s social class did not determine what a person could become.
Chapter 4 is much similar to the previous chapters as it begins by narrating the schooling differences between upper and lower class children. This chapter discusses three students who have different experiences due to social class. These students are going to two different schools, Troy High School and Santa Ana High School. These two schools greatly differ as Troy is top-ranked high school nationally, as it offers many Advanced Placement classes, science and technology program, and at least 99 percent of the students continue their schooling in college. They really put in their effort because they witness what their parents are going through and how it affects them (the kids), however not all lower class people tend to become as successful do to the fact that they see their parents not doing as much and have minimum wage paid job, so they think it okay for them to do the same thing as their parents. But it shouldn’t be this way just because when the kids have kids they are going to go through what they did, probably not as but in a way they will. If they have a chance to get a free education and if that means only through high school is still better than anything because they can get a good pay job. In chapter 4 it stated “I think class is everything, I really do”(pg. 65).

An example of people who may be discriminated against because of their social class would be someone who is poor. Individuals who are poor, under class and some working class, in school could be called ‘scruffy’ by their peers because they might not be able to afford new clothes. This could lead to teachers discriminating and treating students differently. This could show overt and covert discrimination in a health and social care setting.
Social classes are a form of social stratification that refers to the existence of structured inequalities between individuals and groups in society. A social class is a group of people of comparable status, power and wealth which are usually classified as upper class, middle class, and lower class. For each class, there are some specific opportunities available that influence their social life. We can understand about the particularity of the chances through unequal distribution of these opportunities between individuals in social classes.
